Antique Divided Back 1907 Copyrighted Used PC of an EDWARDIAN BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT With Much Symbolism And EMBOSSED. Flowers represented new life in Edwardian times as did the commonly known STORK figure. The tradition of giving a silver baby spoon was a long held tradition that continued well into the 20th century. There was also the phrase, “born with a silver spoon in your mouth” which in Edwardian times did not have the negative connotation that it does today. Rather, it meant that your parents at least tried to start you out right in life. Not sure about the symbolism of the American flag except that the white stripes have come to be connected with purity and innocence which one would associate with a newborn baby. The card is postally used and has an interesting announcement of birth on the back dated 1917 with a message to the newborn’s grandmother. Standard size 5.5” x 3.5”. In good condition according to postcard rating system due to a creased upper left corner and mild corner wear for the others. There is also some noticeable discoloration across the surface of the card. These flaws are not detrimental to the overall great appearance of this card in my opinion, however.
