Description
You're bidding on a pair of U.S. Air Force officer's caps - a visor service cap and a garrison cap - they appear to be early, probably to the very beginning of the Air Force as a separate service branch. The visor cap has the calling card of Forrest William Sheinwald still sewn in, and it still shows rank/branch of service as Major, Air Corps, United States Army - along with his handwritten name and threat, "This is not your cap!" - "Put it back!", on the visor bottom. Cap was custom made in Boston, with orange stitching that's a bit unusual and a fabric that looks almost like denim. Caps came together, garrison cap is unnamed but Size 7, just like the visor cap, and with Major rank pin attached.Sheinwald served during WWII, as a publicity and intelligence officer at Dale Mabry Army Airfield, an airport in Tallahassee, FL that was taken for use by the Army Air Corps during War years. The Airfield was used to train fighter groups throughout the war, as well as a training facility for Chinese and Free French Air Force Cadets, and as a German POW camp. Sheinwald served in the Air Force until 1971, retiring as a Lt. Colonel.
Overall good condition for age and type - some light soil and a small scratch on the visor of the service cap - no holes, mothing or substantial wear. Please review photos carefully to make your own determination of overall condition and appeal, and don't hesitate to ask any questions prior to bidding - thanks for looking!
