    The popular television series
    Welcome Back, Kotter
    (1975-1979)
featured the members of a Brooklyn high school class to which Gabe Kotter, a former student, had returned as a teacher.
    GABE KAPLAN
    , previously a standup comedian,
starred as teacher Gabe Kotter in the TV sitcom
    Welcome Back Kotter
    (1975-1979)
. He made his feature film debut as a college basketball coach in
    Fast Break
    (1979).
    JOHN TRAVOLTA
    received
    Academy Award nominations
    for
    Saturday Night Fever
    (1977) and
    Pulp Fiction
    (1994). Travolta, who
first found fame as Vinnie Barbarino in the TV sitcom
    Welcome Back, Kotter
    (1975-1977), became a
    cultural phenomenon
with the release of the films and soundtracks of
    Saturday Night Fever
    and
    Grease
    (1978).
    His
    Urban Cowboy
(1980) gave as big a boost to country music as
    Saturday Night Fever
had for disco. Travolta's career seemed in decline in the 1980s, but big successes in
    Pulp Fiction
    (1994),
    Get Shorty
    (1995),
    Face/Off
    (1997) and
    Swordfish
(2002) heralded his return as a major American actor.
ROBERT HEGYES (1951-2012) spent a few years acting on Broadway before being cast in the ABC comedy
    Welcome Back Cotter
    (1975-1979).
After the show Hegyes continued to act on television and on stage and played the character
Detective Manny Esposito on the television crime drama
    Cagney and Lacey
    from 1986-1988.
    MARCIA STRASSMAN
    has
over 60 TV shows and movies to her credit,
beginning with a 1964 role in
    The Patty Duke Show
, but is probably best known as Nurse Margie Cutler from
    M*A*S*H
    (1972-1973) and as
Gabe Kotter's wife Julie Kotter in
    Welcome Back, Kotter
(1975-1979). She was also the wife and mother in
    Honey, I Shrunk the Kids
    (1989) and its sequel,
Honey, I Blew Up the Kid
    (1992).
LAWRENCE HILTON-JACOBS appeared in all 93 episodes of the show as Sweathog Freddie 'Boom Boom' Washington.
He has continued a successful acting career, appearing in numerous films and television shows including
    Alien Nation
    (1989-1990) and
    Let's Stay Together
    (2011).
    RON PALILLO
    (1949-2012)
has appeared onscreen since the 1970s, mostly working as a supporting actor.
His most famous role was his first: Arnold Horshack in the TV sitcom
    Welcome Back, Kotter
    (1975-1979).
He also appeared in such films as
    The Tempest
    (1985),
    Doin' Time
    (1985),
Friday the 13th, Part VI: Jason Lives
    (1986),
    Snakeeater
    (1989),
    Committed
    (1991) and
    Wind
    (1992).
JOHN SYLVESTER WHITE (1919-1988) appeared in all 93 episodes of the show as Vice Principal Michael Woodman.
